Ashley Burton Rantala is a master dance educator, adjudicator and mother of two, with more than 20 years of experience guiding dancers through the art and discipline of movement. She has built a distinguished international career as a choreographer, adjudicator, lecturer, and arts juror, working across North America and Europe. Her dance practice lives at the intersection of performance and pedagogy—where movement, awareness, and intention align, and dance becomes a language of curiosity, expression, and connection.

Ashley brings a thoughtful blend of artistic depth and academic grounding to her teaching. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dance Choreography and Performance, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, and a Bachelor of Education from York University—credentials that support a teaching approach rooted in both technical excellence and reflective inquiry.

Her dance research is informed by the work and legacy of modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan, shaping Ashley’s ongoing exploration of natural movement, musicality, and expressive freedom. This research continues to influence both her choreographic voice and her pedagogical approach, grounding technique in humanity, breath, and intention.

Ashley has shared her research and teaching internationally as a lecturer at York University in Toronto, the Isadora Duncan Symposium in San Francisco, and the Council of International Dance in Athens, Greece. She completed her DanceAbility teacher certification in Rome, Italy, under the direction of founder Alito Alessi, further deepening her commitment to inclusive, accessible, and socially engaged movement practices.

Alongside her creative and educational work, Ashley has served as a lecturer and jury member for the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts, contributing thoughtful insight to the evaluation and support of artists and arts organizations across Canada.

In 2026, Ashley founded Dancer’s Den Inc., a private dance practice offering specialized coaching, mentorship, and movement education, alongside the publication of her original dance writing. Her writing reflects on technique, identity, leadership, and the evolving lived experience of dancers—giving language to moments that are often felt more than spoken.

Ashley is also the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Burton Family Foundation, a family-led legacy initiative supporting arts education and creative communities across Northern Ontario. Guided by both professional practice and motherhood, she leads with care, sustainability, and a long-term vision for artistic growth.
